Andrew Nelson is the current City Administrator for the City of Kemmerer, Wyoming. He was raised in an Air Force family growing up and eventually ended up in Las Vegas, where he completed high school at the Las Vegas Academy as a violin performance major. He attended college at Brigham Young University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and later served a mission for his church in Switzerland and France. While at BYU, he also was a competitive ballroom dancer, becoming a U.S. National Finalist in two different categories. He then returned to BYU and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in city management. After grad school, he and his family moved to Casper, Wyoming, where he worked for the City of Casper in finance, criminal justice, and transportation management. He met his wife on the BYU Ballroom Dance Company and together they have two children (including one Kemmerer native!). Andrew also serves as a recruiter for the United States Coast Guard.

The administrator’s role is to implement the policy decisions of the Council by directing and managing the daily operations of the City. Andrew’s management philosophy can be summed up with the aphorisms: “Be where you ought to be, when you ought to be there, doing what you ought to be doing” and “Don’t just make it work; make it right.” If you have questions, concerns, or would like to have an item addressed with the City Council, he can be reached at (307) 828-2350.
